TUESDAY, DECEMBER 18

@@@@BOOK ORDERS--DUE TODAY:

Yep. I'll mail them in today.

@@@@WRITING FOLDER--DUE TODAY:

I passed writing folders out to everyone and we organized them to be graded. All of 2nd quarter's work was paper clipped.

@@@@SPELLING MID-TERM TEST--TOMORROW:

We talked though some ways you could study effectively for this test. One idea was to pick out the 20 hardest words and have someone quiz you on them while you write them out. Then, tomorrow morning, just review the words you missed out of those 20 hardest words. Seems simple!

@@@@NAMES/NOMBRES PAGE 4:

We read part of this short story aloud in call during the last 15 minutes of class. we will finish it tomorrow after the spelling test.

These won't come in before Christmas break, but I'll still send an order in tomorrow!

@@@@RC TESTS--DUE by NOON THURSDAY:

I will be talking to each person who DID NOT pass the I CAN'T BELIEVE... RC test. That test was worth a quiz grade in this class. If you made a 70% or better on the test, it also counted as your RC Test requirement for this quarter. For those of you who did not pass it, you will still need to pass another RC test before this Thursday afternoon!

@@@@SPELLING MID TERM TEST--WEDNESDAY:

The 100 word, multiple-choice, Spelling Mid-Term Test (lists A--J) will be this WEDNESDAY!!!

@@@@WRITING FOLDERS--DUE TOMORROW:

Every student was given a chance to look through his/her writing folder today. These folders are due tomorrow. One page should be edtited and the green or purple editing sheet should be staled to that sheet (with the three questions answered). Also there should be 10 new pages of writing. LET ME KNOW IF YOUR POWER IS STILL OFF AND YOU CANNOT PRINT OUT PAGES FROM HOME!

@@@@LIBRARY CHECK OUT:

We do this every Monday! It is a good time to get an RC test taken!!!

@@@@10 MINUTE FREE WRITE on "YOUR NAME"--DUE at the END OF THE HOUR:

To prepare for a short story we will read tomorrow, we did 10 minutes of free writing over the topic of "YOUR NAME." What do you know about your name? Etc. I have more questions to lead you into thought if you need them!

I picked this writing up at the end of the class. Tomorrow I will read the ones that are volunteered before we read the short story.

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 7

@@@@MID TERM SPELLING ACTIVITY--DUE AT THE END OF THE HOUR:

The focus for today's class is to finish and hand in the mid-term spelling activity. If you are already finished and hand it in at the beginning of the hour, you have the following options...

@@@@30 MINUTE WRITING NOTE--DUE MONDAY:

Today I was willing to let students write in class for 30 minutes and I would sign off in their planner for the 30 minutes of additional writing. Other students just opted to do the 30 minutes at home, like usual. I will check for those signatures this Monday! REMEMBER...doing your editing counts toward 30 minutes of writing.

@@@@WORD ART:

For those finished with the spelling activity at the beginning of the hour, one option was to do "word art" like a graphic artist on some sentence strips of paper I have in my room. This is just another way to work with the spelling words and help decorate the room.

@@@@SSR:

For those finished with the spelling activity at the beginning of the hour, one option was to read your library book.

@@@@GRADED WORK HANDED BACK:

I handed back Spelling Test J to place in your assignment folders. We also needed all of our spelling scores for the following activity done in class.

@@@@RECORD SPELLING SCORES:

Using the sheet provided and the graded spelling tests placed in the assignment folders, students filled out a sheet that helped us evaluate how well he/she did on weekly speeling througout the semester. Students filled out as much as possible from their folders and then handed this sheet in for me to complete. I will hand this back next week and everyon who has tested out of the spelling mid-term test will know for sure when this sheet is returned.

@@@@SPELLING MID-TERM ACTIVITY--DUE FRIDAY:

Everyone has to do the spelling activities....right? Even if you end up testing out of the mid-term test. This activity is about categorizinf words according to patterns. You have class time today and class time on Friday to complete this. It will be collected at the end of the hour on Friday.

Tuesday, December 4, 2007

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 4

@@@@EDITING PACKET--DUE:

I walked around and collected the editing packet from each student and then re-distributed them to other students in that class to grade.

@@@@GRADE PACKET:

We graded these together as a class, talking about the answers as we went. I collected these again once they were graded.

@@@@SSR/WRITE:

Most classes did not have any left over time, but if they did they were expected to read a library book or write for the writing folder that is due next week.

@@@@30 MINUTE WRITING NOTE--DUE:

I walked around one at a time and checked this from each student. There are several who need to rememebr to show it to me tomorrow!

@@@@GRADE PRINT OUT--EC TODAY:

As I walked around for the 30 minute note, I collected grade print outs that were signed. These are extra credit.

@@@@LIBRARY CHECK OUT:

We took our weekly trip to the library. A few of the students finished up the RC test for I CAN'T BELIEVE...

@@@@FINISH EDITING PACKET:

When we returned to class, the priority was to complete the EDITING PACKET that had been handed out last Wednesday. Most kids had placed it in their writing folder. There was about 10 minutes to work on it in class today. What was not finished is homework tonight. A completed packet should return to class tomorrow.

@@@@SSR:

Anyone who was already finished with the EDITING PACKET had extra time to read their own book.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 30

I was absent Tuesday and Wedensday, so make sure and see me personally if you were absent one fo those days. Email me if you are a parent who has a question.

@@@@SPELLING TEST J:

This is the last weekly spelling test for this semester. When I get them graded and hand them back next week, we will talk about how you can tell if you tested out of the MIDTERM spelling test (list A--J) and how you can qualify for the advanced list for second semester.

@@@@GRADED PAPERS HANDED BACK:

I handed back a couple of spelling tests and the second reading guide for I CAN'T BELIEVE...We placed all these in your inbdividual assignment folders. The only class that did not have time for this was 3rd hour.

@@@@IDIOMS & SIMILES:

Before I handed back the reading guide, I went over the two most missed questions dealing with IDIOMS and SIMILES. You should talk with me if you missed this mini-lesson! These terms show up on the State Assessment.

@@@@GRADE PRINT OUT--EC ON MONDAY:

I handed out grade print outs at the end of the hour. These can be signed and returned on Monday for EXTRA CREDIT.

@@@@30 MINUTE WRITING NOTE--DUE MONDAY:

It is really important for you to make use of the writing you do at home, as this Thursday in class will be dedicated to editing and the entire folder is due in two weeks.
